Valencia College was founded in February 1967 as Valencia Junior College by the Orange County Board of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education, and its charter class of freshmen started that fall in temporary space on West Oak Ridge Road in Orlando. It earned full accreditation in 1969, moved to the West Campus in 1971 and became Valencia Community College the same year. It was renamed Valencia College in 2011, when it started offering bachelor's degrees, and won the first Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence that year. Campuses sit in Orange and Osceola counties, including East, Osceola, Winter Park, Lake Nona, Poinciana and Downtown. The DirectConnect to UCF program guarantees admission to the University of Central Florida. Undergraduate enrollment was 43,370 in fall 2022. It has no varsity athletics, only intramurals.
