University of the West is a small private university in Rosemead, east of Los Angeles, founded in 1991 and affiliated with the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order of Taiwan. It is regionally accredited by WASC and is among the few American universities with a Buddhist foundation, although students are not required to be Buddhist or to practise any faith. The school is very small: reported enrollment ranges from roughly 180 to 240 students depending on the source and year, split between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Its catalog describes an open-enrollment admission route alongside standard admission, and third-party listings show rolling admissions with no SAT or ACT requirement and a 100 percent acceptance rate. International applicants have separate requirements. Prospective students can reach the enrollment office at info@uwest.edu or by phone, and should confirm current programmes on the official site.
