The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) traces its roots to an English language centre opened by Australia's University of Wollongong in 1993, which grew into a full campus, UOW Dubai, in October 2000, before the institution took its current name, UOWD, in 2004 as it expanded beyond language teaching into full degree provision. This gradual evolution from a small language centre into one of Dubai's more established branch campuses reflects the broader growth of the emirate's international education sector over the same period. UOWD now delivers more than 45 foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes across business, engineering, ICT, nursing, communications and media, and other fields, serving more than 3,500 students from over 100 nationalities taught by academics from more than 50 countries. This scale and diversity give it one of the more genuinely international student and staff populations among Dubai's branch university campuses.
