The University of St. Thomas is a private Catholic research university with campuses in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Archbishop John Ireland founded it in 1885 as a seminary for men, naming it for the medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas. It was the College of St. Thomas until it became the University of St. Thomas in 1990. It has nine schools and colleges, including the Opus College of Business and the School of Law, and enrolls more students than any other private university in Minnesota. Its Tommies athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I. The admissions site lists 150+ majors and minors, 55+ graduate programs, and the Dougherty Family College two-year pathway to a bachelor's degree. First-year applicants may apply free of charge through the Common App or the university's own application.
