The University of Saint Francis is a private Catholic university in Fort Wayne, Indiana, promoting Catholic and Franciscan values. The Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration founded it in 1890 in Lafayette, Indiana, as Saint Francis Normal School, a teacher-training school. It was a junior college until 1937, became Saint Francis College in 1940, and moved to Fort Wayne in 1944 to the former John H. Bass estate. A graduate school was added in 1960, and it took the University of Saint Francis name in 1998 after absorbing the Lutheran College of Health Professions. The 132-acre campus includes the Brookside Mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Wikipedia reports 1,903 students in fall 2022. The Cougars compete in the NAIA Crossroads League, and the university also has a site in Crown Point, Indiana.
