The University of Redlands traces its start to a Baptist commission that voted on June 27, 1907 for a Redlands site and incorporated the university in a vineyard in the young San Bernardino County town. Classes began in fall 1909; Wikipedia counts nine founding faculty and 39 students meeting in the Redlands Baptist Church, the university's own site says 59 students, and by 1925 enrollment had reached 465. Wikipedia lists 3,192 students for fall 2023 with a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, and the university says it has more than 3,000 students and over 50,000 alumni. Redlands is currently test-optional and takes only the Common App from first-years, with one counselor and one teacher recommendation. A 2022-23 catalog addendum still says SAT or ACT is required, which is outdated. The Bulldogs compete in NCAA Division III in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to recruiting profiles.
