The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) is a public college in Fort Kent, Maine, and the northernmost campus of the University of Maine System. It was established in 1878 as the Madawaska Training School to prepare teachers for the upper St. John Valley, later became Fort Kent Normal School and Fort Kent State College, and took its present name around 1970 to 1971. The 54-acre campus sits on the Canadian border and the university is a centre for Acadian and French-American culture, housing the Acadian Archives, opened in 1990, and hosting the annual Fiddlers Jamboree. Wikipedia lists about 770 students in fall 2024. UMFK offers bachelor's degrees including nursing, plus a master's in nursing, and its Bengals teams compete in the USCAA, with women's soccer winning national titles.
