The University of Hawaii at Manoa started in 1907 as the College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts of the Territory of Hawaii. It was renamed the College of Hawaii in 1912, when it moved to Manoa Valley, became the University of Hawaii in 1919, and took the Manoa name in 1972. The territorial Normal School was absorbed in 1931, and the community colleges joined the system in 1965. The campus covers about 320 acres in Honolulu, and the John A. Burns School of Medicine is near Kakaako Waterfront Park. It is a land-grant flagship, classified R1 for very high research activity, with fall 2024 enrolment of 20,012. Wikipedia counts over 200 degree programmes in 17 colleges and schools, including law and medicine. It is the only Division I school in Hawaii, and the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team won NCAA titles in 1982, 1983 and 1987.
