The University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore was founded on 1 January 1921 in Mughalpura as Mughalpura Technical College. In 1923 it became MacLagan Engineering College, named after Punjab governor Sir Edward Douglas MacLagan, who laid the foundation stone of the main building. It was affiliated with the University of the Punjab in 1929 for bachelor's degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering, and in 1939 it was renamed Punjab College of Engineering and Technology, adding civil engineering. Wikipedia calls it the oldest and one of the most selective engineering institutions in Pakistan, with around 40,000 candidates sitting ECAT each year for roughly 3,045 subsidised seats. It is a public university with campuses beyond Lahore.
