The University of Dubai was founded in 1997, originally as Dubai Polytechnic College, at a time when Dubai was still building out its formal higher-education sector alongside its rapid economic growth, before the institution was renamed University of Dubai in 2006 to reflect its expanded scope and ambitions. It is a private institution owned by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, giving it a distinctive institutional backing among the emirate's universities and close informal ties to Dubai's business community. The university offers more than 26 accredited undergraduate, graduate, and advanced certificate programmes across Business Administration, Law, Engineering, and Information Technology, a relatively focused portfolio oriented toward fields directly useful to Dubai's commercial and industrial economy rather than a broad liberal-arts curriculum. Its programmes carry accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Education as well as international bodies such as AACSB for business and ABET for engineering and technology programmes, giving graduates qualifications recognised both locally and internationally.
