UC Davis began as the University Farm: the Legislature passed the University Farm Bill on March 18, 1905, the Regents took control of the site in 1906 and classes started in January 1909. The farm school ended in May 1922 after graduating a last class of 97, a four-year undergraduate programme began that year, the first class graduated in 1926, and Davis was designated a general UC campus in October 1959. The campus covers about 5,300 acres in the city of Davis, in Yolo County, and the university calls itself first in the world for veterinary medicine and first in the nation for agriculture. Niche lists about 31,500 full-time undergraduates. The overall acceptance rate was 44.3 percent for the 2025 cycle on about 103,000 applications. The Aggies play Big West sports, with football in the Big Sky, and rival Cal Poly in the Horseshoe Classic.
