The University of Bolton, RAK Academic Centre began academic operations in 2008 as a branch campus of the UK's University of Bolton in Ras Al Khaimah, giving students in the northern emirates access to a British-accredited degree without needing to travel to the UK. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a fairly wide spread of subjects, including accounting, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, business management, law, psychology and computing, combining technical and professional fields under one roof. A key feature of the RAK centre is that all programmes are directly equivalent to those delivered at the University of Bolton in the UK: they are assessed by the same examination boards, moderated by the same external examiners, and lead to degree certificates issued directly by the University of Bolton itself, rather than a locally branded qualification.
