The University for the Creative Arts is a specialist art and design university in the south of England. It descends from the Guildford School of Art, founded in 1856, and Maidstone College of Art, founded in 1867. These schools formed Kent Institute of Art and Design in 1987 and Surrey Institute of Art and Design in 1995, which joined in 2005 as University College for the Creative Arts. It received full university status from the Privy Council in May 2008 and adopted its present name that September. It teaches at Canterbury, Epsom and Farnham, and the Rochester campus closed in September 2023.
