Umm Al Quwain University (UAQU) was founded in 2012 as the first university established in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, the smallest of the seven emirates, giving local students an option to study close to home rather than travelling to Sharjah, Dubai or Abu Dhabi for higher education. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across four specialised colleges, Business Administration, Arts and Sciences, Mass Communication, and Law, and has received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to add a College of Computer Science from the 2026/2027 academic year, extending its programme range into technology fields for the first time. As a relatively young and smaller university compared with the UAE's larger institutions, UAQU positions itself as a focused, community-oriented option for the emirate's residents, with tuition that tends to sit toward the more affordable end of the UAE's private and semi-private university fee range, reported at roughly AED 32,250 to 45,000 per year depending on programme.
