United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) was founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding President of the UAE, making it the country's oldest university and a foundational institution in the young nation's development, established only a few years after the UAE itself was formed in 1971. Based on an 80-hectare, purpose-built campus in Al Ain, known as the Garden City for its oases and greenery, UAEU features high-tech laboratories, specialised research centres, modern IT infrastructure and contemporary classroom technology across a single, unified campus rather than being spread across satellite sites. It operates as a comprehensive, research-intensive institution enrolling around 13,000 students from the UAE and abroad, and offers undergraduate and graduate programmes through nine colleges, Business and Economics, Science, Education, Engineering, Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Humanities and Social Science, Information Technology, Law, and Medicine and Health Sciences.
