Touro University California was founded in 1997 in San Francisco as an independent, Jewish-sponsored institution with an inaugural class of 67 students, and moved in 1999 to former naval base buildings on Mare Island in Vallejo. It belongs to the Touro College and University System and is jointly administered with Touro University Nevada. Its colleges cover osteopathic medicine (D.O., plus a dual D.O./MPH), pharmacy (Pharm.D.), and education and health studies, which includes a physician assistant degree paired with an MPH. A Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences has run since 2010 as a pathway into the osteopathic programme. Accreditation comes from WSCUC, with programme accreditors including COCA for osteopathic medicine, ACPE for pharmacy, ARC-PA for physician assistants and CEPH for public health. Federal data shows 1,090 students, none of them undergraduates.
