Toccoa Falls College began in 1907 as the Golden Valley Institute in Golden Valley, North Carolina, started by Richard A. Forrest. In October 1911 Forrest moved it to Toccoa, Georgia, next to a mainline railroad, renamed it Toccoa Falls Institute and added secondary courses to the theological classes. A fire destroyed the Haddock Inn, the classroom and residence building, in 1913, and classes then ran in tents for a time. The school's high school was accredited by Georgia in 1928 and stayed open until 1976. It later grew into a college affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and it has held regional SACS accreditation since 1983. The campus is near Toccoa in northeast Georgia. Third-party listings describe the admissions policy as test-optional, with an acceptance rate of roughly two thirds.
