The University of West Los Angeles grew out of a 1966 effort by Culver City educators, led by Henry Blunt, to give working adults a way to study part time; the university says it opened with six students. Its law school began as a small law office programme with three students, won State Bar of California accreditation in 1978 and expanded in July 2002 by acquiring the San Fernando Valley College of Law in Chatsworth. Today it runs campuses in Inglewood and Woodland Hills and added a bachelor's-level School of Business in 2016. WSCUC lists it as accredited, first accredited in 2018, with a reaffirmation in June 2024. The law school is approved by the State Bar but not by the American Bar Association, so graduates qualify to sit the bar exam in California only. Wikipedia reports a 25 percent first-time pass rate for July 2023.
