The University of Tampa traces its start to 1931, when Frederic Spaulding, principal of Hillsborough High School, founded Tampa Junior College. Its signature building is Plant Hall, completed in 1891 and now a national historic landmark, a classic example of Moorish architecture that serves as the main classroom and administration building. The university is private and has grown steadily; Wikipedia lists about 11,000 students, and UT has announced several record enrollments in recent years. Athletes compete as the Spartans. For 2023-24 the school reported a record 35,351 first-year applications for an entering class of 2,898 undergraduates. UT is test optional, reviews applications holistically, and accepts the Common Application, the Coalition Application or its own online form. Early Decision is binding and due November 1, while Early Action is non-binding and due November 15, and spring applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
