The Baptist College of Florida changed its name in November 2023 and is now the Baptist University of Florida, still in Graceville in the Panhandle. It began in 1943 as Florida Baptist Institute in Lakeland, a school for pastors without college degrees, renamed Baptist Bible Institute two years later. Leaders moved it to Graceville in 1953, and the Florida Baptist State Convention took ownership in 1957. It added bachelor's degrees in 1976 and associate degrees in 1988, became Florida Baptist Theological College, and took the name Baptist College of Florida in 2000. From 2023 to 2025 it opened satellite campuses in Orlando, Jacksonville, Broward, Miami and West Palm Beach, some teaching in Spanish, French and Portuguese. Enrollment was 846 in spring 2025. Strengths include ministry, business, psychology and education, and the Eagles joined NCCAA Southeast Division II in fall 2025.
