Taylor University is a private, non-denominational Christian university in Upland, Indiana, on a campus of roughly 950 acres. It began in 1846 as Fort Wayne Female College in Fort Wayne, founded by the Methodist Church, admitted men in 1850, and was renamed Taylor University after Bishop William Taylor around 1890. In 1893 it relocated to Upland under an agreement with the Upland Land Company. It has not been formally affiliated with Methodism since 1922. Taylor is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and belongs to the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Its teams compete in the NAIA Crossroads League, and its men's and women's cross country teams have won NAIA national titles. Wikipedia reports about 1,900 undergraduates as of 2024. The university acquired Summit Christian College in Fort Wayne in 1992, but ended traditional undergraduate programs there after 2008-09, so undergraduate study is centered at Upland.
