Stonehill College is a private Roman Catholic college in North Easton (Easton), Massachusetts, founded in 1948 by the Congregation of Holy Cross. The state authorized it on June 30, 1948, and the first class enrolled 134 men that September; it became coeducational in 1951. The Holy Cross Fathers had bought the land, the former Frederick Lothrop Ames Jr. estate, in 1935. The 375-acre suburban campus has 29 buildings centered on the original Georgian-style Ames mansion. Stonehill is accredited by NECHE and offers the B.A., B.S. and BSBA through the May School of Arts and Sciences and the Meehan School of Business, with 47 majors, 51 minors and several master's programs. Engineering majors spend their last four semesters at the University of Notre Dame. It has about 2,491 students, its motto is Lux et Spes, and its Skyhawks compete in NCAA Division I in the Northeast Conference.
