Southwestern College is a private United Methodist college in Winfield, Kansas. It was founded in 1885 as Southwest Kansas Conference College, graduated its first class of three in 1889, and was renamed Southwestern College in 1909. It enrolls about 1,900 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The college is known for its laptop learning community, its emphasis on service learning, and its Moundbuilders athletic nickname, which inspired the campus rock pile known as The Mound. Its teams compete in the NAIA within the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern offers undergraduate programs on its Winfield campus, professional studies for adult learners, and graduate programs, including online options. Admission is built around a high school transcript, an application with a $25 fee and test scores, though the college says it does not judge applicants mainly on tests.
