Saint John's University is a private Catholic Benedictine university for men in Collegeville, Minnesota, founded in 1857 by the Benedictine monks of Saint John's Abbey. It is described as the oldest continuously operating institution of higher learning in Minnesota. The campus sits on about 3,300 acres of woods, lakes and prairie, and is home to Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary and the handwritten, illuminated Saint John's Bible held in Alcuin Library. Fall 2024 enrollment was about 1,572 students, including graduate students. Its teams, the Johnnies, compete in NCAA Division III in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. SJU is separate from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, about 3.5 miles away, but the two share a curriculum, faculty and president, and students can use resources on both campuses, connected by a free bus called The Link.
