St. Johns River State College began on February 25, 1958, as St. Johns River Junior College in Palatka, holding its first classes in a local Baptist church before moving to a permanent site by 1960. It absorbed the closed Collier-Blocker Junior College in 1964, and in 1976 it took on the Florida School of the Arts, billed as the state's first state-supported professional arts school. A branch campus opened in Orange Park in 1977 and another in St. Augustine in 1986, so the college now works from three campuses covering roughly 354 acres. It became a state college in 2011 and added bachelor's degrees, including Digital Art and Media and Performance Design and Production through the arts school. Enrollment was about 10,500 students in 2017. The Vikings compete in the NJCAA in the Mid-Florida Conference. The input listing gives Lakeside, but the college's main campus is in Palatka; the Orange Park campus is at the listed address.
