Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by Bishop Walter W. Curtis of the Diocese of Bridgeport, who announced in October 1962 that a Catholic college would open the following September under the name Sacred Heart. It is based in Fairfield, Connecticut. According to Wikipedia it enrolls about 6,524 undergraduates and 4,206 postgraduates, and offers graduate and undergraduate programmes in health professions, business, education and arts and sciences, including physician assistant studies. Its athletics teams play NCAA Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and the university describes 38 varsity programmes. College Board data list about 16,495 applicants for a recent first-year class, with 10,780 admitted, roughly 65 percent, and 1,885 enrolled. Third-party sites differ slightly on acceptance and total enrollment figures, mainly because some count graduate students and others do not, so the numbers here should be treated as approximate.
