Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, known as RMCAD, is a private for-profit art school in Lakewood, Colorado. It was founded in 1963 by artist and educator Philip J. Steele, who bought a school called Art for All Studios; it was incorporated as the Rocky Mountain School of Art in 1972 and moved from Denver to Lakewood in 2003. The 23-acre campus sits in the 40 West Arts District on the former site of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society. In 2010 the owners of Full Sail University took a controlling share, and in 2014 most liberal arts courses moved online. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and its interior design program holds CIDA accreditation. Enrollment is about 1,400 undergraduates, split between on-campus and online programs. A 2026-27 academic catalog and a May 2026 commencement indicate it remains in operation. The school colors are orange and black.
