Point University began in 1937 as Atlanta Christian College in East Point, Georgia, founded by Judge Thomas Olin Hathcock and his wife Nora on land from a farm she had inherited. It has always been affiliated with the Christian churches and churches of Christ and first focused on training ministers, missionaries and other church workers. The college joined the American Association of Bible Colleges in 1965 and gained regional accreditation for associate and bachelor's degrees from SACSCOC in 1990. In 2011 it took the name Point University, and in June 2012 it moved its main campus to West Point, Georgia. Football, softball and cross country were added in fall 2011, and the teams became the Skyhawks in the NAIA. Residential students study alongside a large online population, which brings total enrolment to more than 2,900 as of 2025.
