Nottingham Trent University (NTU) traces its origins to the Nottingham Government School of Design, founded in 1843 as one of the earliest design schools in the UK, which evolved over the following century and a half through several institutional stages including Trent Polytechnic before gaining full university status in 1992. NTU's History programmes give students the skills to discover and understand the past, taught by staff with strong links to the modern heritage industry and active historical research groups; its BA (Hons) History course was refreshed in 2015, building on similar courses the university had taught for the previous twenty years.
