Northeastern University London grew out of the New College of the Humanities, founded in 2012 by the philosopher and writer A. C. Grayling. It merged with the US-based Northeastern University in February 2019, and Northeastern became the first US institution granted university title in England by the Office for Students. In 2021 it moved to Devon House, a warehouse-style building of 48,000 square feet in St Katharine Docks overlooking Tower Bridge, with classrooms, social spaces, quiet study zones and a film studio. The institution is small, with student numbers in the low thousands.
