The National College of Arts in Lahore grew out of the Mayo School of Industrial Arts, founded in the mid-1870s, with sources giving 1875 or 1876. John Lockwood Kipling became its first principal in 1875 and was also the first curator of the adjacent Lahore Museum. Later principals included Fred Andrews, Percy Brown and Bhai Ram Singh. The school was renamed the National College of Arts in 1958. Wikipedia calls it the oldest art school in Pakistan and the second oldest in South Asia, with exchange programmes with several overseas art schools and a UNESCO Chair in architecture. It is a federally chartered public institution.
