Murdoch University Dubai was established in 2008 and formally inaugurated in Dubai International Academic City by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, then UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, marking it as one of the earlier Australian branch campuses to open in the emirate. It operates as a genuine branch campus of Australia's Murdoch University, delivering the same style of Australian higher education to students who may not wish to relocate abroad for a full undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Since 2019 it has run its foundation and diploma pathway programmes in partnership with Navitas, a global pathway-education provider, which introduced a new Foundation Programme and four new Diplomas designed to prepare students for direct entry into the second year of bachelor's degrees.
