Mount Mercy University is a private Catholic university in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Mercy as a two-year college for women. It became coeducational in 1969 and was designated a university in 2010. It offers more than 40 undergraduate programs built on a liberal arts core, and the Mustangs compete in the NAIA. The 40-acre campus includes the Our Mother of Sorrows Grotto. In August 2024 the school announced a combination with St. Ambrose University: St. Ambrose became its corporate owner in June 2025, and reporting in March 2026 described the partnership as finalized, with Mount Mercy continuing as a campus with its own name and programs. First-year admission is test-optional; strong consideration goes to a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a top-half class rank.
