Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is a private historically Black medical school in Atlanta, Georgia. It began in 1975 as the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College, with Louis W. Sullivan as inaugural dean, and admitted its first students in 1978 to a two-year basic sciences program, after which they transferred to other schools for clinical training. In 1981 MSM became an independently chartered institution, which its fact sheet describes as the first medical school established at an HBCU in the twentieth century. It confers the M.D. along with graduate programs in the biomedical and public health sciences. Applicants to the M.D. program apply through AMCAS; any bachelor's major is accepted, but a bachelor's degree, an MCAT score and all required coursework must be complete by enrollment. MCAT scores more than three years old at matriculation are not considered, and secondary applications are by invitation only.
