Mohammed V University Agdal - Abu Dhabi began operating in the 2009/2010 academic year as an Abu Dhabi extension of Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco, which was itself founded by royal decree in 1957. The Abu Dhabi branch followed the academic modules, programmes and regulations of its Moroccan parent institution, with a curriculum centred on Islamic Studies and Social and Human Sciences. The institution has since been renamed Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, reflecting its evolution beyond the original Mohammed V University branch structure.
