Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) was established in 2016 by royal decree of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at a time when Dubai was looking to build a dedicated, locally rooted medical education institution rather than relying solely on branch campuses or students training abroad. It is organised into three colleges, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine (the first college established under MBRU), the College of Medicine, and the College of Nursing and Midwifery, together offering 23 accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including the flagship MBBS degree. Since a 2021 law establishing Dubai's first integrated academic health system, MBRU has led the teaching and research mission of Dubai Health, positioning it at the centre of the emirate's combined academic and clinical healthcare network rather than as a standalone teaching institution.
