Mitchell College is a small private college on a 68-acre waterfront campus in New London, Connecticut. It opened in 1938 as New London Junior College and took the name Mitchell College in 1950, honouring Alfred Mitchell. His wife, Annie Olivia Tiffany Mitchell, was a daughter of jeweler Charles Lewis Tiffany, and their summer home in New London is now part of the campus. The college offers associate and bachelor's degrees in more than a dozen subjects including business, education, psychology and liberal arts. Fall 2020 enrollment was 572 students and 68 faculty, and the admission rate at that time was 70 percent. The Mariners compete in NCAA Division III in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The New England Commission of Higher Education lists Mitchell as accredited, with its last comprehensive evaluation in 2023 and the next scheduled for spring 2033.
