Missouri Valley University, until recently Missouri Valley College, is a private Presbyterian-affiliated institution in Marshall, Missouri. Wikipedia gives its founding as 1889, following 1874 meetings of Presbyterian synods in Missouri to discuss a school. The college's own news posts from August 2026 announce the change to Missouri Valley University, endorsed by the Higher Learning Commission, and report more than 1,600 students in fall 2026, its largest fall enrollment. The rural campus covers 150 acres, and its original building, Old Main (now Baity Hall), is on the National Register of Historic Places. The university offers about 40 majors, including nursing and a master's in community counseling, plus online courses. The Vikings compete in the NAIA's Heart of America Athletic Conference. Former president Harold Roe Bartle founded the American Humanics Foundation in 1948.
