McPherson College is a private liberal arts college in McPherson, Kansas, affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. It was chartered in 1887 and opened for classes in 1888 with about 60 students. The college enrolls roughly 800 undergraduates and competes in the NAIA as the Bulldogs. It is best known for its Automotive Restoration Technology program, described by Wikipedia as the only four-year Bachelor of Science degree of its kind in the United States, which draws students from across the country. The campus also carries a history connected to J. Willard Hershey's 1926 synthetic diamond experiments, whose success remains debated. McPherson offers undergraduate majors across the arts, sciences, business and education, with an emphasis on small classes and service rooted in its Brethren heritage. Its admissions policy is tiered: applicants with a 3.0 unweighted GPA are admitted regardless of test scores, while lower GPAs are reviewed with ACT results.
