Martin Luther College is a private Christian liberal arts college in New Ulm, Minnesota, operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). It was established in 1995 when Northwestern College (founded 1865 in Watertown, Wisconsin) merged with Dr. Martin Luther College (founded 1884 in New Ulm) on the New Ulm campus. The college trains WELS pastors, teachers and staff ministers, with a pre-seminary program that feeds Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Its historic Old Main building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, and its Knights compete in NCAA Division III. Wikipedia reports about 860 students as of fall 2019 and Higher Learning Commission accreditation, and notes a June 2026 change to automatic Minnesota teaching license eligibility for new education students starting fall 2026.
