Maine Maritime Academy is a public maritime college in Castine, Maine, established by the Maine Legislature on March 21, 1941. It is one of six non-federal maritime colleges in the United States and one of two with an NROTC unit. About 950 undergraduates study programs in marine engineering, marine transportation, logistics, power engineering and related fields, and many train for U.S. Coast Guard licenses. Students join a Regiment of Midshipmen, a military-style leadership program, and the academy graduated the first woman from a U.S. maritime or service academy in 1976. Admission does not require a congressional recommendation. The academy is test-optional, charges a $50 application fee through the Common Application with waivers for need, and requires a physical examination, though not before the admission decision. Early Action applicants who finish by November 30 are notified by February 1.
