Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, in Jamshoro, says on its own site that Liaquat Medical College was upgraded to a university in January 2001, previously being affiliated with the University of Sindh. Reference sources trace the institution's lineage back to 1881 in Hyderabad, with the Liaquat Medical College name coming from a 1951 college started in the Civil Hospital at Hyderabad, and a move to the Jamshoro campus later, with sources giving different dates. LUMHS is described as the first public sector medical university in Pakistan. It runs MBBS and other health programmes plus postgraduate research degrees, and publishes MBBS prospectuses.
