The Institute of Space Technology was established in September 2002 in Islamabad under the auspices of SUPARCO, Pakistan's national space agency. In October 2005 the federal government granted it autonomous degree-awarding status by presidential ordinance, and the Institute of Space Technology Act, 2010 later gave it statutory recognition. Its programmes centre on astronomy, aerospace engineering, avionics, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science and astronautics, and some degrees are offered in partnership with Beihang University and the University of Surrey. Wikipedia notes a 573-acre campus on the outskirts of Islamabad and an ISO-certified management standard since 2008. It is a public institution.
