The Institute of Business Management traces its roots to the Foundation for Higher Education, a non-profit set up in 1994 by a group of Karachi citizens, which began teaching as the College of Business Management (CBM) in September 1995. In January 1998 the Sindh Provincial Assembly approved a bill establishing IoBM as a private-sector university, founded by Shahjehan Syed Karim. It is organised into four colleges: the College of Business Management, the College of Economics and Social Development, the College of Computer Science and Information Systems, and the College of Engineering Sciences, with more than 6,000 students as of 2023.
