Idaho State University is a public university in Pocatello, Idaho. Governor Frank W. Hunt signed the bill creating the Academy of Idaho on March 11, 1901, contingent on private land donations for a site, and the school opened its doors on September 22, 1902. Early on it focused on vocational training with four faculty and fewer than 100 students. It was renamed Idaho Technical Institute in 1915, then University of Idaho-Southern Branch in 1927 and Idaho State College in 1947, and gained university status in 1963. Wikipedia reports 12,614 students for fall 2023, including 10,406 undergraduates. Published information from the university's international admissions page gives an estimated GPA of 2.25 and says SAT or ACT is not required, and third-party profiles describe the school as test-optional with an average GPA near 3.4.
