Hawaii Pacific University began in 1965 as Hawaii Pacific College. Honolulu Christian College merged into it in 1966, it became a university in 1990, and Hawaii Loa College merged in 1992. The Oceanic Institute, an aquaculture research facility at Makapuu Point, was formally brought in during 2014. The main campus is at the Aloha Tower Marketplace in downtown Honolulu, there are military campuses on Oahu bases, and a Las Vegas campus held its grand opening in February 2025. The Hawaii Loa campus in Kaneohe closed in summer 2024. The university is accredited by WASC and is organised into colleges of business, liberal arts, natural and computational sciences, and professional studies, plus a Graduate College of Health Sciences and School of Nursing. Its Sharks play NCAA Division II in the Pacific West Conference. Wikipedia lists about 4,998 students, 4,260 of them undergraduate.
