Harper Adams University was established in 1901 as Harper Adams College, after Thomas Harper Adams, a wealthy Shropshire gentleman farmer, died in 1892 and left his estate as the original foundation. The college started with just six students, and numbers passed 1,000 for the first time in 1991. It is a land-based public university at Edgmond in Shropshire, and became Shropshire's first university when it gained university status in 2012. There were 5,285 students in 2024/25.
