Full Sail University began in 1979 in Dayton, Ohio, when Jon Phelps started it as a recording arts school. It moved to Orlando in 1980 and to Winter Park in 1989, where it now occupies a campus of roughly 200 acres about 8.6 miles northeast of downtown Orlando. It added a first bachelor's programme in 2005, its first master's and online degrees in 2007, and became Full Sail University in 2008 when the Florida Department of Education granted university status. The school focuses on audio, film and media production, video game design, computer animation and business, and it opened a sportscasting school in 2017. It also has a WWE partnership that began in 2012 and labs for esports and virtual production. Full Sail is a private for-profit university accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Enrollment is reported at 26,737 students, including 25,532 undergraduates, and College Scorecard shows a graduation rate of 47 percent.
