Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers was established in 1962 as Edison Junior College, named for Thomas Edison, who spent winters in the city. Its first campus opened in 1965. It became a baccalaureate-granting institution in 2008 and was renamed Edison State College, then dropped the Edison name on July 1, 2014 to reflect a wider geographic reach, becoming Florida SouthWestern State College. The college belongs to the Florida College System and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, according to Wikipedia. It offers Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and baccalaureate degrees plus certificate programmes. Its intercollegiate athletics programme is relatively new, debuting in fall 2015. Wikipedia lists 14,326 undergraduates for fall 2022, which makes it one of the larger state colleges in southwest Florida, and its main campus address is on College Parkway in Fort Myers.
