The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology was established on 13 November 2002 under Ordinance No. CXIX of 2002, with its principal seat in Islamabad. It began operating by taking over two federal government colleges in Karachi, the Federal Urdu Science College and the Federal Urdu Arts College, which trace back to 1949 and the work of Dr. Abdul Haq, known as Baba-e-Urdu. Today the administrative and degree-awarding units are based in Karachi, while the Islamabad campus functions as a second main campus. Wikipedia gives an approximate enrolment of 13,500 students and notes research in languages, fine arts, engineering, social sciences and philosophy. It is a federally chartered public university.
